چکیده

We report observations of space-group-forbidden Bragg re ections in Potassium Dihydrogen Phosphate (KH2PO4), also known as KDP, measured by resonant x-ray di raction at the potassium K edge. We nd clear evidence for a transition from one class of space-groupforbidden re ections, where scattering is ruled out by the electric dipole approximation, to a second class, in the ferroelectric phase, where scattering can proceed due to resonant anisotropy within the dipole approximation. The change of symmetry is clearly evidenced by the sudden change of intensity and energy spectrum of the forbidden re ections.

Synchrotron Radiation X-Ray Multiple Diffraction in the Study of KDP Phase Transition Induced by Electric Field

In this work, the application of the X-ray multiple diffraction technique using synchrotron radiation at Laboratório Nacional de Luz Síncrotron (LNLS) to study KDP phase transition induced by electric field is discussed. A Huber three-axis (ω, φ, 2θ) diffractometer mounted on a table which rotates around the incident beam allows to measure Renninger scans (RS) at the XRD station of LNLS using t...

Full polarization analysis of resonant superlattice and forbidden x-ray reflections in magnetite.

Despite being one of the oldest known magnetic materials, and the classic mixed valence compound, thought to be charge ordered, the structure of magnetite below the Verwey transition is complex and the presence and role of charge order is still being debated. Here, we present resonant x-ray diffraction data at the iron K-edge on forbidden (0, 0, 2n+1)(C) and superlattice [Formula: see text] ref...

Resonant x-ray scattering in 3d-transition-metal oxides: Anisotropy and charge orderings

The structural, magnetic and electronic properties of transition metal oxides reflect in atomic charge, spin and orbital degrees of freedom. Resonant x-ray scattering (RXS) allows us to perform an accurate investigation of all these electronic degrees. RXS combines high-Q resolution x-ray diffraction with the properties of the resonance providing information similar to that obtained by atomic s...

Resonant X-ray Scattering and Multiple Beam Diffraction in LaMnO3

Fig 1: The solid points give the location and shape of the (1 0 –4) resonant reflection in orthorhombic LaMnO3. Open circles display Mn Kα fluorescence from the same sample on a common energy scale. The vertical scale is arbitrary and the lines are guides to the eye. In conventional X-ray diffraction the beam scatters from all electrons in the unit cell, but in resonant diffraction at a forbidd...

Chiral smectic transition phases appearing near the electric-field-induced phase transition observed by resonant microbeam x-ray scattering.

The electric-field-induced phase transition of a chiral liquid crystal containing Br revealed a transition phase between the three-layer periodicity ferrielectric phase and the synclinic ferroelectric phase in the electric field versus temperature phase diagram. Resonant x-ray scattering from the transition phase showed a diffuse streak or spotty weak reflections, which were composed of strong ...
